From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Benin (with a CAGR of -13.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In value terms, Ghana ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Nigeria ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 95% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Benin, which accounted for a further 5.3%.

Benin, with a CAGR of -10.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -3.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a pronounced decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 27%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Benin ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2022, Mali (X tons) represented the major importer of chlorosulphuric acid, constituting 62% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Mauritania (X tons), generating a 27% share of total imports. The following importers - Burkina Faso (X tons) and Senegal (X tons) - each resulted at an 8.4% share of total imports.

Mali was also the fastest-growing in terms of the chlorosulphuric acid imports, with a CAGR of +39.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Mauritania (+8.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Senegal (-7.0%) and Burkina Faso (-11.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
