Nigeria was the key exporting country with an export of around X units, which accounted for 78% of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Guinea (X units). All these countries together took near 18% share of total exports. The following exporters - Ghana (X units) and Liberia (X units) - each recorded a 3.9% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to helicopter exports from Nigeria stood at -7.4%. At the same time, Guinea (+9.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +9.6% from 2012-2022. Liberia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Cote d'Ivoire (-2.5%) and Ghana (-6.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Cote d'Ivoire and Guinea increased by +4.8 and +3.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) remains the largest helicopter supplier in Western Africa, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Guinea, with a 2.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Nigeria amounted to +15.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Cote d'Ivoire (-7.2% per year) and Guinea (+3.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, jumping by 16% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 4,220%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per unit), while Ghana ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+25.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Western Africa
In 2022, helicopter imports in Western Africa skyrocketed to X units, rising by 102% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, helicopter imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 337% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Nigeria was the main importer of civil helicopters in Western Africa, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was approx. 36% of total imports in 2022. Niger (X units) held a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Ghana (14%), Mauritania (13%) and Cote d'Ivoire (4.7%). The following importers - Senegal (X units) and Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha (X units) - each recorded a 5.9% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Niger (with a CAGR of +621.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Niger ($X), Ghana ($X) and Mauritania ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 78% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Niger, with a CAGR of +85.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -22.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, posted notable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 180% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per unit), while Senegal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
