The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 125% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Cote d'Ivoire prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 92% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Mali (X tons), constituting a 7.8% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to colour lake exports from Cote d'Ivoire stood at -2.6%. At the same time, Mali (+35.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mali emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +35.9% from 2012-2021. Mali (+7.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Cote d'Ivoire saw its share reduced by -6.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) remains the largest colour lake supplier in Western Africa, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mali ($X), with a 24% share of total exports.
In Cote d'Ivoire, colour lake exports decreased by an average annual rate of -3.3% over the period from 2012-2021.

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 32%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 75% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, colour lake imports shrank markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a pronounced shrinkage. From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +29.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest colour lake importing markets in Western Africa were Ghana ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X), together accounting for 73% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of +14.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, falling by -12.7% against the previous year. Import price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
