In 2022, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, rising by 2.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 125%. At the same time, Guinea (+46.5%), Togo (+27.6%), Sierra Leone (+25.0%), Senegal (+9.7%) and Mali (+6.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Ghana experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported contact lenses in Western Africa, comprising 36% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mali ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Togo, with a 7.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Nigeria stood at +50.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mali (-10.2% per year) and Togo (+16.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, declining by -21% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
