Export Prices by Country
The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2020, jumping by 153% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw measured growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 193%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Benin ($X per unit), while Senegal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Togo (+63.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Western Africa
After four years of growth, supplies from abroad of continuous and discontinuous totalisers decreased by -68.4% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 199% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2020, and then fell notably in the following year.
In value terms, totaliser imports declined markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 338% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.
Imports by Country
Nigeria dominates imports structure, resulting at X units, which was near 74% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Burkina Faso (X units), generating a 6.6% share of total imports. Ghana (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Guinea (X units) and Senegal (X units) held a little share of total imports.
Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the continuous and discontinuous totalisers imports, with a CAGR of +67.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Burkina Faso (+53.2%), Cote d'Ivoire (+16.7%), Senegal (+15.7%), Ghana (+13.7%) and Guinea (+8.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Nigeria (+68 p.p.) and Burkina Faso (+5.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Senegal, Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea and Ghana saw its share reduced by -2.8%, -4.5%, -7.1% and -7.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported continuous and discontinuous totalisers in Western Africa, comprising 90% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Senegal ($X), with a 3.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 1.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Nigeria amounted to +65.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Senegal (+26.0% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+11.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -9.3% against the previous year. Import price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, totaliser import price decreased by -18.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 76%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per unit), while Burkina Faso ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+9.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
