Nigeria prevails in exports structure, resulting at X kg, which was near 97% of total exports in 2022. Togo (X kg) took a relatively small share of total exports.

Imports in Western Africa
In 2022, overseas purchases of corks and stoppers of natural cork decreased by -0.4% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 3,108%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, natural cork stopper imports fell significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 2,712%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Nigeria dominates imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 88% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X tons), achieving an 8.9% share of total imports. Niger (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to natural cork stopper imports into Nigeria stood at +28.7%. At the same time, Niger (+37.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Niger emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +37.3% from 2012-2022. Senegal experienced a relatively flat trend pattern.
