From 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+7.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Western Africa

In 2021, the amount of dental cements and bone reconstruction cements imported in Western Africa skyrocketed to X tons, growing by 51% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports recorded a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 151% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, medical reconstruction cements imports reduced modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports posted a prominent expansion. Mali, with a CAGR of +55.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a measured increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 54% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mali ($X per ton), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
