The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 51%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per kg. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Guinea ($X per kg), while Sierra Leone totaled $X per kg.

In 2018, purchases abroad of diamonds (industrial) decreased by -93.2% to X kg for the first time since 2015, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports recorded a dramatic contraction. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2018, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, industrial diamond imports contracted significantly to $X in 2018. Overall, imports saw a precipitous shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2018, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Import Prices by Country

In 2018, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per kg, surging by 232% against the previous year. Overall, the import price posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 232%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per kg; afterwards, it flattened through to 2018.
