As a result, the amount of producing animals attained the peak level of X heads, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

In 2022, approx. X kg of duck and goose meat were exported in Western Africa; which is down by -40.7% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports saw a precipitous shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 1,183%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, duck and goose meat exports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a significant decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 673% against the previous year. Benin (+100 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Cabo Verde (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8% share, followed by Guinea (7.5%) and Ghana (5.8%). The following importers - Benin (X tons) and Mali (X tons) - each amounted to a 5.6% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Togo (with a CAGR of +31.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Togo ($X), Mali ($X) and Cabo Verde ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 48% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Togo, with a CAGR of +25.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, declining by -26.5% against the previous year. Import price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, duck and goose meat import price increased by +24.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 63%.
