In value terms, duck and goose meat exports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a significant decrease. In 2022, Benin (X kg) represented the major exporter of duck and goose meat in Western Africa, making up 100% of total export.
Benin was also the fastest-growing in terms of the duck and goose meat exports, with a CAGR of -10.7% from 2012 to 2022. Benin (+100 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Benin ($X) also remains the largest duck and goose meat supplier in Western Africa.

From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -29.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. Liberia (X tons) and Togo (X tons) represented roughly 67% of total imports in 2022. Cabo Verde (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8% share, followed by Guinea (7.5%) and Ghana (5.8%). The following importers - Benin (X tons) and Mali (X tons) - each amounted to a 5.6% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Togo (with a CAGR of +31.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Togo ($X), Mali ($X) and Cabo Verde ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 48% of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Togo, with a CAGR of +25.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, declining by -26.5% against the previous year. Import price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, duck and goose meat import price increased by +24.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 63%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mali ($X per ton), while Liberia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
