In 2021, the amount of electric burglar or fire alarms and similar apparatus exported in Western Africa contracted dramatically to X units, waning by -30.4% against the year before. In general, exports, however, recorded measured growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, electric burglar or fire alarm exports dropped sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a measured expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 93%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then plummeted in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Senegal (X units) was the main exporter of electric burglar or fire alarms and similar apparatus, making up 46% of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Guinea (X units) and Togo (X units). All these countries together held approx. 40% share of total exports. The following exporters - Mauritania (X units), Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha (X units) and Niger (X units) - together made up 9.5% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to electric burglar or fire alarm exports from Senegal stood at +59.8%. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Senegal, Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire, Togo, Mauritania and Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha increased by +45, +11, +5.7, +4.3, +4 and +2.8 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Senegal ($X) emerged as the largest electric burglar or fire alarm supplier in Western Africa, comprising 40% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Niger, with a 10% share.

In Senegal, electric burglar or fire alarm exports increased at an average annual rate of +74.5% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cote d'Ivoire (+1.6% per year) and Niger (+1.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, waning by -18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 114% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Niger ($X per unit), while Guinea ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Niger (+12.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Western Africa

Electric burglar or fire alarm imports dropped markedly to X units in 2021, waning by -23.1% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 146%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, electric burglar or fire alarm imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, posted a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 136% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X.
