In 2022, exports of electric ovens, cookers, cooking plates, boiling rings, grillers and roasters in Western Africa skyrocketed to X units, rising by 33% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a noticeable decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 132% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, electric oven and cooker exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Ghana (X units), Senegal (X units) and Guinea (X units) represented roughly 65% of total exports in 2022. Sierra Leone (X units) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Niger (X units). All these countries together took approx. 16% share of total exports. The following exporters - Togo (X units) and Nigeria (X units) - each recorded an 8.4% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Guinea (with a CAGR of +37.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Senegal ($X), Ghana ($X) and Guinea ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 66% share of total exports.

Guinea, with a CAGR of +36.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -3.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 72% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Niger ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Niger (+3.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Western Africa

After five years of growth, purchases abroad of electric ovens, cookers, cooking plates, boiling rings, grillers and roasters decreased by -17% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 98% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2021, and then fell notably in the following year.

In value terms, electric oven and cooker imports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 119% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Ghana was the largest importing country with an import of around X units, which reached 41% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Nigeria (X units), Guinea (X units) and Cote d'Ivoire (X units), together making up a 42% share of total imports. Cabo Verde (X units), Senegal (X units) and Mali (X units) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to electric oven and cooker imports into Ghana stood at +28.3%. At the same time, Guinea (+39.0%), Mali (+16.6%), Cote d'Ivoire (+16.4%), Cabo Verde (+16.2%) and Senegal (+9.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +39.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Nigeria (-2.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Ghana (+32 p.p.), Guinea (+14 p.p.) and Cote d'Ivoire (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Nigeria saw its share reduced by -52.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Ghana ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Guinea ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 78% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Guinea, with a CAGR of +30.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 2.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 11% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per unit), while Cabo Verde ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+2.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
