In 2021, the West African electric radiator market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Exports in Western Africa
In 2021, exports of electric radiators and convection heaters in Western Africa skyrocketed to X units, growing by 189% on 2020. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 221%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, electric radiator exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 132% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Nigeria (X units) represented the main exporter of electric radiators and convection heaters, committing 50% of total exports. Mauritania (X units) took a 28% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (14%) and Sierra Leone (4.7%). Senegal (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Senegal (with a CAGR of +39.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mauritania ($X) emerged as the largest electric radiator supplier in Western Africa, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Senegal, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mauritania totaled +54.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cote d'Ivoire (+1.0% per year) and Senegal (+54.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -44.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the export price increased by 559% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2020, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per unit), while Sierra Leone ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (+25.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Western Africa
In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of electric radiators and convection heaters, when their volume decreased by -58.7% to X units. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 103%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2020, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, electric radiator imports declined rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 60% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the three major importers of electric radiators and convection heaters, namely Niger, Cote d'Ivoire and Nigeria, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X units) and Ghana (X units), together generating a 14% share of total imports. The following importers - Gambia (X units) and Burkina Faso (X units) - each reached a 6% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Niger (with a CAGR of +72.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Niger ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Senegal ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 65% of total imports.
Niger, with a CAGR of +54.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 39% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per unit), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
