Electrical Fuse Market Size in Western Africa
In 2021, the West African electrical fuse market decreased by -8.5% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total consumption indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +51.7% against 2017 indices. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then shrank in the following year.
Electrical Fuse Production in Western Africa
In value terms, electrical fuse production dropped to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Western Africa
In 2021, overseas shipments of electrical fuses were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 67% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, electrical fuse exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Sierra Leone (X tons) represented the key exporter of electrical fuses, generating 52% of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire (X kg) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Togo (5.5%), Gambia (4.9%), Mauritania (4.9%) and Senegal (4.8%). Guinea (X kg) held a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to electrical fuse exports from Sierra Leone stood at +19.8%. At the same time, Mauritania (+38.8%), Togo (+38.3%) and Cote d'Ivoire (+34.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mauritania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +38.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Guinea (-2.2%), Senegal (-7.3%) and Gambia (-16.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Sierra Leone, Cote d'Ivoire, Togo, Mauritania and Guinea increased by +48, +15, +5.3, +4.9 and +2.2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Sierra Leone ($X) remains the largest electrical fuse supplier in Western Africa, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mauritania ($X), with a 9.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with an 8.6% share.
In Sierra Leone, electrical fuse exports increased at an average annual rate of +28.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mauritania (+155.7% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+21.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -3.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 71%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mauritania ($X per ton), while Gambia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mauritania (+84.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Western Africa
In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of electrical fuses, when their volume decreased by -9.8% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 280%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, electrical fuse imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 87%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Nigeria dominates imports structure, recording X tons, which was near 90% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X tons), creating a 4.9% share of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the electrical fuses imports, with a CAGR of +12.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (+12.0%) and Ghana (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Nigeria (+8.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Ghana saw its share reduced by -4.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported electrical fuses in Western Africa, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with a 12% share of total imports.
In Nigeria, electrical fuse imports expanded at an average annual rate of +10.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ghana (+1.1% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+11.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 65%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (-0.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
