Liberia prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 82% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Togo (X kg), constituting a 7.2% share of total exports. The following exporters - Ghana (X kg), Sierra Leone (X kg) and Guinea (X kg) - together made up 10% of total exports.

Liberia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of erasers of vulcanised rubber. At the same time, Guinea (+49.4%), Sierra Leone (+48.2%) and Togo (+20.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +49.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Ghana (-11.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Liberia (+82 p.p.), Sierra Leone (+3.2 p.p.) and Guinea (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Ghana (-78.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Liberia ($X) emerged as the largest vulcanised rubber erases supplier in Western Africa, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with a 25% share of total exports. It was followed by Togo, with a 5.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Liberia was relatively modest. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ghana (+12.8% per year) and Togo (+17.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 76% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced expansion. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while Liberia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sierra Leone (+37.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Western Africa

In 2021, purchases abroad of erasers of vulcanised rubber increased by 29% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after five years of decline. Over the period under review, imports posted a moderate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 163% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, vulcanised rubber erases imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 233% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Nigeria was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which reached 52% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X tons) and Togo (X tons), together achieving a 31% share of total imports. The following importers - Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Guinea (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Benin (X tons) - together made up 13% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Benin (with a CAGR of +34.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest vulcanised rubber erases importing markets in Western Africa were Ghana ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Guinea ($X), together comprising 84% of total imports. Senegal, Togo, Benin and Cote d'Ivoire lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 11%.

Benin, with a CAGR of +36.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
