The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 158%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

Niger dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 83% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Mali (X tons), committing a 7.7% share of total exports. Mauritania (X kg), Sierra Leone (X kg) and Senegal (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Niger was also the fastest-growing in terms of the filing cabinets, card-index cabinets or desk equipment of base metal exports, with a CAGR of +57.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mauritania (+40.0%), Mali (+24.5%), Senegal (+21.2%) and Sierra Leone (+15.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Niger (+83 p.p.), Mali (+6.5 p.p.) and Mauritania (+4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Niger ($X) emerged as the largest metal filing cabinet supplier in Western Africa, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mali ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Sierra Leone, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Niger stood at +53.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mali (+38.7% per year) and Sierra Leone (+51.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -75.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a temperate expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 77%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sierra Leone ($X per ton), while Mauritania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sierra Leone (+31.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of filing cabinets, card-index cabinets or desk equipment of base metal, when their volume decreased by -2.7% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 91% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, metal filing cabinet imports reduced to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a tangible increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the five major importers of filing cabinets, card-index cabinets or desk equipment of base metal, namely Ghana, Mauritania, Guinea, Togo and Nigeria, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Senegal (X tons), Sierra Leone (X tons) and Benin (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Togo (with a CAGR of +94.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ghana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported filing cabinets, card-index cabinets or desk equipment of base metal in Western Africa, comprising 30% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Nigeria ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Togo, with a 14% share.

In Ghana, metal filing cabinet imports declined by an average annual rate of -2.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Nigeria (+9.4% per year) and Togo (+95.2% per year).

In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -10.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 27%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sierra Leone ($X per ton), while Mauritania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
