In value terms, Niger ($X) emerged as the largest metal filing cabinet supplier in Western Africa, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mali ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Sierra Leone, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Niger stood at +53.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mali (+38.7% per year) and Sierra Leone (+51.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -75.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a temperate expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 77%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sierra Leone ($X per ton), while Mauritania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sierra Leone (+31.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Western Africa

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of filing cabinets, card-index cabinets or desk equipment of base metal, when their volume decreased by -2.7% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 91% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, metal filing cabinet imports reduced to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a tangible increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

The purchases of the five major importers of filing cabinets, card-index cabinets or desk equipment of base metal, namely Ghana, Mauritania, Guinea, Togo and Nigeria, represented more than two-thirds of total import. The second position in the ranking was taken by Nigeria ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Togo, with a 14% share.
