The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 27% against the previous year. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. After three years of growth, overseas purchases of fish fats and oils decreased by -6.2% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 171% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Imports by Country
Nigeria was the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 88% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X tons), making up a 10% share of total imports.
Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the fish fats and oils imports, with a CAGR of +29.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Ghana (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Nigeria (+46 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Ghana (-46 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fish fats and oils in Western Africa, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with a 16% share of total imports.
In Nigeria, fish fat and oil imports increased at an average annual rate of +14.6% over the period from 2012-2022.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, falling by -7.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt contraction.
