Mauritania prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 79% of total exports in 2021. Guinea (X tons) held a 7.2% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Senegal (6.4%). Gambia (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to seafood meals and pellets exports from Mauritania stood at +13.3%. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (+91.4%), Guinea (+86.9%) and Gambia (+58.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cote d'Ivoire emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +91.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Senegal (-2.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, Mauritania ($X) remains the largest seafood meals and pellets supplier in Western Africa, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Guinea ($X), with an 8.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Senegal, with a 3.9% share.

In Mauritania, seafood meals and pellets exports increased at an average annual rate of +15.9% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Guinea (+88.2% per year) and Senegal (+11.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, waning by -6.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the export price increased by 19%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, seafood meals and pellets imports reduced remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 81% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
