Sierra Leone (X units) and Ghana (X units) represented the largest exporters of generators for internal combustion engines in 2022, recording near 36% and 30% of total exports, respectively. Nigeria (X units) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Togo (9.3%). Senegal (X units) and Mali (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Among the main exporting countries, Ghana, with a CAGR of +23.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -14.9% against the previous year. Export price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Overall, imports showed a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 213% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, engine generator imports fell remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 227% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Ghana (X units), distantly followed by Guinea (X units), Nigeria (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Mauritania (X units), Senegal (X units), Sierra Leone (X units) and Mali (X units) represented the main importers of generators for internal combustion engines, together mixing up 84% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Mauritania (with a CAGR of +15.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest engine generator importing markets in Western Africa were Nigeria ($X), Guinea ($X) and Ghana ($X), with a combined 55% share of total imports. Senegal, Mauritania, Cote d'Ivoire, Mali and Sierra Leone lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

In 2022, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, surging by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 19%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while Ghana ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
