In value terms, glass closure imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 270% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Nigeria was the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 74% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Benin (X tons), making up an 11% share of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Ghana (X tons) and Senegal (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Nigeria increased at an average annual rate of +22.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Benin (+77.0%), Senegal (+59.2%), Cote d'Ivoire (+58.7%) and Ghana (+36.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Benin emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +77.0% from 2012-2022. While the share of Benin (+11 p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (+4.1 p.p.), Ghana (+2.3 p.p.) and Senegal (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Nigeria (-16.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported glass stoppers, lids and other closures in Western Africa, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with an 8.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Ghana, with a 5.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Nigeria totaled +16.4%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Cote d'Ivoire (+52.2% per year) and Ghana (+22.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, surging by 24% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 42%. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Benin ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (-4.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
