While the share of Burkina Faso (+60 p.p.), Sierra Leone (+3 p.p.) and Ghana (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Senegal (-8.6 p.p.) and Nigeria (-28 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported handmade paper and paperboard in Western Africa, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Burkina Faso ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Senegal, with a 10% share.

In Nigeria, handmade paper imports increased at an average annual rate of +22.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Burkina Faso (+41.1% per year) and Senegal (+1.3% per year).
