Exports in Western Africa

Plastic headgear exports skyrocketed to X units in 2022, increasing by 257% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a abrupt decline. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The following exporters - Burkina Faso (X units) and Senegal (X units) - each amounted to a 4% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Niger (with a CAGR of +16.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) remains the largest plastic headgear supplier in Western Africa, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Niger ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 6.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Nigeria totaled -13.3%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Niger (-9.3% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (-2.3% per year).

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, shrinking by -40.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 39%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per unit), while Senegal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Plastic headgear imports shrank to X units in 2022, with a decrease of -11.6% on the previous year. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a slight increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 156%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic headgear imports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 262% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Ghana (X units) represented the key importer of headgear of rubber or plastic, creating 35% of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire (X units) took a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Burkina Faso (12%), Nigeria (7.9%), Togo (7%), Benin (4.7%) and Senegal (4.6%).

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Senegal (with a CAGR of +21.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ghana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported headgear of rubber or plastic in Western Africa, comprising 36% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Nigeria ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 14% share.

The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 4.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate strong growth.
