In 2022, Mali (X tons) was the major exporter of homogenised preparations of jams, fruit jellies and marmalades, comprising 54% of total exports. Nigeria (X tons) took an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (14%), Burkina Faso (7.4%) and Senegal (5%).

Mali was also the fastest-growing in terms of the homogenised preparations of jams, fruit jellies and marmalades exports, with a CAGR of +15.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Nigeria (+11.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Cote d'Ivoire (-5.0%), Burkina Faso (-11.9%) and Senegal (-13.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, Nigeria ($X) remains the largest homogenised jam and marmalade supplier in Western Africa, comprising 38% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mali ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 17% share.

In Nigeria, homogenised jam and marmalade exports increased at an average annual rate of +18.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mali (+8.7% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+0.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 171%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Mali ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Burkina Faso (+7.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of homogenised preparations of jams, fruit jellies and marmalades, when their volume decreased by -9.7% to X tons. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +60.3% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.

Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Cabo Verde (X tons), Mali (X tons), Mauritania (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Burkina Faso (X tons) and Benin (X tons) represented roughly 95% of total imports in 2022.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Mali (with a CAGR of +32.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest homogenised jam and marmalade importing markets in Western Africa were Cote d'Ivoire ($X), Senegal ($X) and Mali ($X), together accounting for 63% of total imports.

Mali, with a CAGR of +39.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -3.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the import price increased by 23% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mali ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
