Imports in Western Africa
In 2021, approx. X tons of imines and their derivatives and salts thereof were imported in Western Africa; surging by 36% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 257% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, imines imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 347%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Nigeria represented the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 78% of total imports. Ghana (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 17% share, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (4.7%).
Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the imines and their derivatives and salts thereof imports, with a CAGR of +34.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Ghana (+17.9%) and Cote d'Ivoire (+11.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Nigeria (+46 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Ghana (-6.2 p.p.) and Cote d'Ivoire (-6.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported imines and their derivatives and salts thereof in Western Africa, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with a 16% share of total imports.
In Nigeria, imines imports expanded at an average annual rate of +36.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ghana (+8.6% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+9.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 8.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Ghana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
