Nigeria was the key exporter of imitation jewellery in Western Africa, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2020. Mali (X kg) and Togo (X kg) took a minor share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Ghana saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, the imitation jewellery export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, falling by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of X% y-o-y. Total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2007 to 2020: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, imports increased by +X% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 with an increase of X% year-to-year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

Ghana (X tons) and Mali (X tons) represented roughly X% of total imports of imitation jewellery in 2020. Nigeria (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X%) and Senegal (X%). Guinea (X tons) and Niger (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
