The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 492%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, inorganic oxygen compounds of non-metals exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 518%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Senegal was the largest exporter of inorganic oxygen compounds of non-metals in Western Africa, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 48% of total exports in 2021. Nigeria (X tons) took a 23% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Ghana (16%) and Cote d'Ivoire (10%).
Senegal was also the fastest-growing in terms of the inorganic oxygen compounds of non-metals exports, with a CAGR of +15.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Ghana (+13.8%) and Cote d'Ivoire (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Nigeria (-4.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Senegal (+44 p.p.), Ghana (+15 p.p.), Nigeria (+13 p.p.) and Cote d'Ivoire (+8.2 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Senegal ($X) emerged as the largest inorganic oxygen compounds of non-metals supplier in Western Africa, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Nigeria, with a 15% share.
In Senegal, inorganic oxygen compounds of non-metals exports increased at an average annual rate of +15.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ghana (+9.5% per year) and Nigeria (+7.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 44% against the previous year. Export price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 84% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+12.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Imports of Inorganic Oxygen Compounds Of Non-Metals
Imports in Western Africa
After two years of growth, purchases abroad of inorganic oxygen compounds of non-metals decreased by -61.3% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a slight increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 114% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, inorganic oxygen compounds of non-metals imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 201%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Nigeria (X tons) was the main importer of inorganic oxygen compounds of non-metals, achieving 70% of total imports. Ghana (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Gambia (X tons). All these countries together took near 16% share of total imports. Mali (X tons), Mauritania (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Burkina Faso (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to inorganic oxygen compounds of non-metals imports into Nigeria stood at +2.7%. At the same time, Mauritania (+50.0%), Burkina Faso (+19.0%), Mali (+10.1%), Ghana (+4.7%) and Senegal (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mauritania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +50.0% from 2012-2021. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported inorganic oxygen compounds of non-metals in Western Africa, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with an 8.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Senegal, with a 3% share.
In Nigeria, inorganic oxygen compounds of non-metals imports expanded at an average annual rate of +15.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ghana (+6.3% per year) and Senegal (+14.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 204%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
