As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, motorised invalid carriage exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 391% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Cote d'Ivoire was the key exporting country with an export of around X units, which accounted for 72% of total exports. Nigeria (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Niger (X units) and Togo (X units). All these countries together held near 26% share of total exports. Senegal (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Cote d'Ivoire was also the fastest-growing in terms of the invalid carriages motorised or mechanically propelled exports, with a CAGR of +116.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Nigeria (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Senegal experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Togo (-9.7%) and Niger (-11.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Cote d'Ivoire (+72 p.p.) and Senegal (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Nigeria, Togo and Niger saw its share reduced by -8.2%, -21.2% and -39.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) emerged as the largest motorised invalid carriage supplier in Western Africa, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Niger ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Togo, with a 3.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Cote d'Ivoire stood at +174.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Niger (-0.5% per year) and Togo (-2.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 221% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The volume of import peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, motorised invalid carriage imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 191% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Mali was the key importer of invalid carriages motorised or mechanically propelled in Western Africa, with the volume of imports resulting at X units, which was approx. 66% of total imports in 2021. From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Nigeria stood at +2.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ghana (+2.9% per year) and Mali (+6.4% per year).
