Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 372%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, isolating switch exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 280% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Mauritania (X units) was the main exporter of isolating switches & make-and-break switches, comprising 51% of total exports. Senegal (X units) held a 27% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Niger (7.3%). The following exporters - Guinea (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Nigeria (X units) and Sierra Leone (X units) - together made up 9.3% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Mauritania (with a CAGR of +50.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest isolating switch supplying countries in Western Africa were Mauritania ($X), Senegal ($X) and Guinea ($X), with a combined 85% share of total exports.
Mauritania, with a CAGR of +48.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by 6.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 55% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Guinea ($X per unit), while Sierra Leone ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Niger (+8.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Western Africa
In 2022, purchases abroad of isolating switches & make-and-break switches decreased by -5.5% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, imports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 645%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, isolating switch imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 326%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Nigeria prevails in imports structure, resulting at X units, which was near 95% of total imports in 2022. Cote d'Ivoire (X units) held a little share of total imports.
Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the isolating switches & make-and-break switches imports, with a CAGR of +40.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (+22.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Nigeria (+54 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported isolating switches & make-and-break switches in Western Africa, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 4.1% share of total imports.

The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per unit), while Nigeria totaled $X per unit.
