Lamp Holder Market Size in Western Africa
The West African lamp holder market contracted modestly to $X in 2022, declining by -2.5% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The total production indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -7.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 57%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Western Africa
For the third year in a row, Western Africa recorded decline in overseas shipments of lamp holders, plugs and sockets, which decreased by -14.6% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a notable expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 200%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, lamp holder exports dropped significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 51%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Ghana (X tons) represented the major exporter of lamp holders, plugs and sockets, committing 46% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Niger (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Sierra Leone (X tons), Mauritania (X tons) and Togo (X tons), together generating a 48% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to lamp holder exports from Ghana stood at +45.3%. At the same time, Niger (+46.6%), Nigeria (+18.8%), Cote d'Ivoire (+9.2%), Sierra Leone (+4.7%) and Togo (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Niger emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +46.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Mauritania (-10.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Ghana, Niger, Nigeria and Cote d'Ivoire increased by +44, +8.6, +6.3 and +3.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Sierra Leone ($X), Ghana ($X) and Mauritania ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 63% share of total exports. Nigeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Niger and Togo lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 15%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Togo, with a CAGR of +25.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -9.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sierra Leone ($X per ton), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Togo (+21.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Western Africa
In 2022, the amount of lamp holders, plugs and sockets imported in Western Africa declined significantly to X tons, which is down by -31.4% against the year before. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 43%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, lamp holder imports shrank to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 59%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
Imports by Country
Ghana was the main importer of lamp holders, plugs and sockets in Western Africa, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 49% of total imports in 2022. Senegal (X tons) held an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Nigeria (10%) and Burkina Faso (6.6%). The following importers - Gambia (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Togo (X tons), Mali (X tons) and Benin (X tons) - together made up 17% of total imports.
Imports into Ghana increased at an average annual rate of +11.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Gambia (+27.1%), Senegal (+12.7%), Mali (+11.1%), Burkina Faso (+8.5%) and Benin (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Gambia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +27.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Togo (-3.2%), Cote d'Ivoire (-8.3%) and Nigeria (-18.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Ghana (+37 p.p.), Senegal (+8.8 p.p.), Burkina Faso (+4.4 p.p.), Gambia (+4.1 p.p.) and Mali (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Cote d'Ivoire and Nigeria saw its share reduced by -3% and -53.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Ghana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported lamp holders, plugs and sockets in Western Africa, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Senegal ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Nigeria, with an 8.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Ghana amounted to +12.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Senegal (+12.0% per year) and Nigeria (-7.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, growing by 32% against the previous year. Import price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, lamp holder import price decreased by -0.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 158% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
