The average lemon and lime yield rose slightly to X tons per ha in 2022, increasing by 2.8% on the year before. Over the period under review, the yield, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 9.8%. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the lemon and lime yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, lemon and lime exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep reduction. In 2022, Mauritania (X tons) represented the key exporter of lemons and limes, constituting 41% of total exports. Nigeria (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Burkina Faso (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Senegal (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 52% share of total exports. Ghana (X tons) and Guinea (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Mauritania, with a CAGR of +62.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a slight increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 85%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

At the same time, Nigeria (+51.6%), Cote d'Ivoire (+30.2%), Mali (+26.8%), Ghana (+23.4%) and Cabo Verde (+11.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nigeria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +51.6% from 2012-2022. In value terms, the largest lemon and lime importing markets in Western Africa were Cabo Verde ($X), Mauritania ($X) and Nigeria ($X), together comprising 73% of total imports.

Nigeria, with a CAGR of +43.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
