Mattress Market Size in Western Africa

The West African mattress market fell slightly to $X in 2022, which is down by -3.9% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, enjoyed a resilient expansion. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Mattress Production in Western Africa

In value terms, mattress production contracted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 29%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Western Africa

In 2022, approx. X units of mattresses were exported in Western Africa; declining by -1.7% on the previous year. Overall, exports, however, recorded a pronounced increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 66%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, mattress exports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 155% against the previous year. In 2022, Senegal (X units) represented the key exporter of mattresses, comprising 49% of total exports. Mali (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 30% share, followed by Togo (14%). Nigeria (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Senegal (with a CAGR of +53.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. In 2022, approx. X units of mattresses were imported in Western Africa; surging by 5.5% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports posted a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 71%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
