The West African market for meat of camels and other animals declined to $X in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. In general, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Production of Meat of Camels and Other Animals in Western Africa

In value terms, camel and other animal meat production contracted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production saw a pronounced downturn. The average camel and other animal meat yield reached X tons per head in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against 2021 figures. In general, the yield recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 6.5%. The level of yield peaked at X tons per head in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, the number of animals slaughtered for camel and other animal meat production in Western Africa shrank to X heads, which is down by -2.3% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, the number of producing animals, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 8.7% against the previous year. As a result, the number of producing animals attained the peak level of X heads. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of this number failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, shipments abroad of meat of camels and other animals increased by 97% to X tons, rising for the fifth year in a row after four years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 12,880%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, camel and other animal meat exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 9,151%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The shipments of the one major exporters of meat of camels and other animals, namely Cote d'Ivoire, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

Cote d'Ivoire was also the fastest-growing in terms of the meat of camels and other animals exports, with a CAGR of +17.7% from 2012 to 2022. While the share of Cote d'Ivoire (+83 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) also remains the largest camel and other animal meat supplier in Western Africa.

In 2022, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, surging by 26% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a pronounced increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 261% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, the amount of meat of camels and other animals imported in Western Africa reduced remarkably to X tons, with a decrease of -38.5% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 181% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, camel and other animal meat imports contracted notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 166%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

Mali represented the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 42% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Cabo Verde (X tons), together committing a 49% share of total imports. Nigeria (X tons) and Guinea (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Senegal (with a CAGR of +72.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Mali ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported meat of camels and other animals in Western Africa, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Senegal ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Nigeria, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mali amounted to +60.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Senegal (+86.9% per year) and Nigeria (-9.6% per year).

The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 34% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
