In value terms, Nigeria ($X) remains the largest non-knitted men apparel supplier in Western Africa, comprising 29% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Burkina Faso ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Senegal, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Nigeria amounted to -9.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Burkina Faso (+28.5% per year) and Senegal (+26.9% per year).

In 2022, overseas purchases of men's or boys' clothing (not knitted or crocheted) increased by 46% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 70%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-knitted men apparel imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 97% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Nigeria (X units) represented the key importer of men's or boys' clothing (not knitted or crocheted), making up 38% of total imports. Ghana (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Senegal (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units) and Guinea (X units). All these countries together took approx. 47% share of total imports. Niger (X units) and Cabo Verde (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Nigeria increased at an average annual rate of +14.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Cabo Verde (+23.1%) and Senegal (+5.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cabo Verde emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +23.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Niger (-5.4%), Ghana (-10.8%), Cote d'Ivoire (-13.5%) and Guinea (-20.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Nigeria (+33 p.p.), Senegal (+9.3 p.p.) and Cabo Verde (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire and Guinea saw its share reduced by -9.3%, -9.4% and -26.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported men's or boys' clothing (not knitted or crocheted) in Western Africa, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Senegal ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 9% share.
In Nigeria, non-knitted men apparel imports expanded at an average annual rate of +19.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Senegal (+2.0% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (-9.3% per year).
