In value terms, men swimwear exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 123% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The biggest shipments were from Senegal (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units) and Togo (X units), together amounting to 79% of total export. Nigeria (X units) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 6% share, followed by Niger (5.3%) and Sierra Leone (5.1%). Mauritania (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Senegal (with a CAGR of +60.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Senegal ($X) remains the largest men swimwear supplier in Western Africa, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Togo ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Senegal totaled +72.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Togo (+4.6% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+4.9% per year).

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, shrinking by -14% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 54% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

For the fifth year in a row, Western Africa recorded decline in overseas purchases of men’s swimwear (excluding of knitted or crocheted textiles), which decreased by -28.9% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 58%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, men swimwear imports shrank markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 80% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Nigeria dominates imports structure, finishing at X units, which was near 54% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Mali (X units), Senegal (X units), Ghana (X units), Burkina Faso (X units) and Mauritania (X units), together generating a 34% share of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported men’s swimwear (excluding of knitted or crocheted textiles) in Western Africa, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Senegal ($X), with an 8.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Mali, with a 6.7% share.

In Nigeria, men swimwear imports decreased by an average annual rate of -9.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Senegal (-12.7% per year) and Mali (+28.3% per year).
