Exports in Western Africa
After two years of decline, shipments abroad of milk increased by X% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a dramatic setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, milk exports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a dramatic curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Gambia (X tons) was the main exporter of milk in Western Africa, generating X% of total export. Sierra Leone (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Senegal (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Gambia ($X) remains the largest milk supplier in Western Africa, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Senegal ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a X% share.

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible downturn. Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Gambia ($X per ton), while Sierra Leone ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Western Africa

It was distantly followed by Ghana (X tons), Cabo Verde (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Guinea (X tons), together generating a X% share of total imports. The following importers - Mali (X tons) and Gambia (X tons) - each accounted for a X% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to milk imports into Mauritania stood at X%. At the same time, Guinea (X%), Mali (X%), Ghana (X%), Senegal (X%) and Cabo Verde (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Gambia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Ghana (X p.p.), Guinea (X p.p.) and Mali (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Cabo Verde and Gambia saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
