The West African modelling pastes market reduced to $X in 2021, dropping by -9.2% against the previous year. From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Mauritania (with a CAGR of +61.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Senegal ($X) emerged as the largest modelling pastes supplier in Western Africa, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mauritania ($X), with a 4.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Togo, with a 4.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Senegal totaled -9.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mauritania (+8.2% per year) and Togo (+56.7% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, rising by 225% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a significant increase. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, among the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Mauritania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Western Africa

In 2021, modelling pastes imports in Western Africa expanded modestly to X tons, growing by 3.5% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 146%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, modelling pastes imports reached $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 115%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Ghana (X tons) was the main importer of modelling pastes, dental wax and dental impression compounds, mixing up 50% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), committing a 32% share of total imports. The following importers - Cabo Verde (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Gambia (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) - together made up 13% of total imports.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Import price indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, modelling pastes import price increased by +36.1% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
