In value terms, Senegal ($X), Ghana ($X) and Nigeria ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 88% of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Ghana, with a CAGR of +0.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, declining by -12.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 66%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per unit), while Sierra Leone ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, monitors and projectors imports stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. Cote d'Ivoire was the main importer of monitors and projectors in Western Africa, with the volume of imports amounting to X units, which was near 39% of total imports in 2022. Ghana (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 21% share, followed by Nigeria (12%), Mali (11%) and Senegal (6.6%). Mali, with a CAGR of +25.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, shrinking by -6.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 16%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while Mali ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Burkina Faso (-2.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
