For the fourth consecutive year, Western Africa recorded growth in overseas shipments of mustard seed, which increased by 903% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, mustard seed exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports posted prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 142%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Togo dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 90% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X tons), generating a 7.4% share of total exports. Benin (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Togo experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of mustard seed. At the same time, Benin (+64.7%) and Senegal (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cote d'Ivoire emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +20.2% from 2012-2022. While the share of Cote d'Ivoire (+3 p.p.) and Burkina Faso (+2.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Senegal (-5.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Senegal ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported mustard seed in Western Africa, comprising 92% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 5.4% share of total imports.
