In 2021, after four years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of narrow woven fabrics, when their volume increased by 28% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 47% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, narrow woven fabric exports declined slightly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Nigeria (X tons) and Senegal (X tons) were the main exporters of narrow woven fabrics in 2021, accounting for approx. 37% and 28% of total exports, respectively. Guinea (X kg) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 7.8% share, followed by Niger (6.4%) and Mali (4.7%). The following exporters - Sierra Leone (X kg) and Ghana (X kg) - each resulted at an 8% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Guinea (with a CAGR of +24.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Senegal ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Mali ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 64% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Mali, with a CAGR of +30.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -21.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 23% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mali ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mali (+19.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Western Africa

Narrow woven fabric imports reached X tons in 2021, picking up by 13% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, narrow woven fabric imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Ghana (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Togo (X tons) represented roughly 75% of total imports in 2021. Guinea (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8% share, followed by Nigeria (5.4%). Benin (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

In value terms, Ghana ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Senegal ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 63% of total imports. Togo, Guinea, Benin and Nigeria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.

Togo, with a CAGR of +10.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, growing by 9.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the import price increased by 25%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
