Ghana was the major exporter of nitrites in Western Africa, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 70% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Nigeria (X tons), creating a 30% share of total exports.

Ghana was also the fastest-growing in terms of the nitrites exports, with a CAGR of +15.3% from 2012 to 2021. Nigeria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, waning by -66.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 59% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then dropped notably in the following year.

In value terms, nitrites imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The purchases of the one major importers of nitrites, namely Nigeria, represented more than two-thirds of total import.
