In 2021, the West African non-domestic dryer market decreased by -21.1% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a resilient expansion. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +97.2% against 2019 indices. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Benin represented the major exporting country with an export of about X units, which amounted to 52% of total exports. Nigeria (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Togo (X units) and Ghana (X units). All these countries together held near 43% share of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire (X units) and Sierra Leone (X units) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Benin (with a CAGR of +92.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest non-domestic dryer supplying countries in Western Africa were Benin ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Togo ($X), together comprising 96% of total exports.

Benin, with a CAGR of +100.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 17% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 67% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while Ghana ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+15.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of non-domestic dryers, when their volume decreased by -22.5% to X units. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 268% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, non-domestic dryer imports declined markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 216%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Nigeria was the key importer of non-domestic dryers in Western Africa, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was near 82% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X units), creating a 12% share of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire (X units) took a little share of total imports.

Imports into Nigeria increased at an average annual rate of +13.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (+35.1%) and Ghana (+30.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cote d'Ivoire emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +35.1% from 2012-2021. Ghana (+7.8 p.p.) and Cote d'Ivoire (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Nigeria saw its share reduced by -10.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported non-domestic dryers in Western Africa, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with a 7% share of total imports.

In Nigeria, non-domestic dryer imports expanded at an average annual rate of +9.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ghana (+19.3% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+25.9% per year).

In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -5% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 16%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
