In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in the West African non-hydraulic press market, when its value decreased by -5.7% to $X. In general, consumption continues to indicate a deep reduction. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-hydraulic press exports declined sharply to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a deep downturn. In 2021, Senegal (X units) was the largest exporter of non-hydraulic presses for working metal, making up 64% of total exports. Nigeria (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Gambia (X units) and Ghana (X units). All these countries together took near 36% share of total exports.

Exports from Senegal decreased at an average annual rate of -14.5% from 2012 to 2021. Ghana and Gambia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Nigeria (-16.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, the largest non-hydraulic press supplying countries in Western Africa were Ghana ($X), Gambia ($X) and Senegal ($X), together comprising 56% of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Ghana, with a CAGR of +62.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, shrinking by -41.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 5,903%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then fell notably in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, non-hydraulic press imports in Western Africa contracted remarkably to X units, with a decrease of -24.9% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 209%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, non-hydraulic press imports fell sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 663% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

Cote d'Ivoire (X units) and Togo (X units) were the largest importers of non-hydraulic presses for working metal in 2021, finishing at near 40% and 29% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Burkina Faso (X units) and Mauritania (X units), together generating a 13% share of total imports. Nigeria (X units), Liberia (X units) and Senegal (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.
