Exports from Senegal increased at an average annual rate of +17.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mauritania (+49.9%), Benin (+36.6%) and Nigeria (+22.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mauritania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +49.9% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Senegal and Benin increased by +11 and +2 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Senegal ($X) remains the largest non-woven, felt and coated textile garment supplier in Western Africa, comprising 32% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mauritania ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Nigeria, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Senegal amounted to +2.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mauritania (+46.6% per year) and Nigeria (+14.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, which is down by -69.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 70%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mauritania ($X per unit), while Senegal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mauritania (-2.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

For the third year in a row, Western Africa recorded growth in purchases abroad of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments, which increased by 61% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 132%. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 186%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -2.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
