The biggest shipments were from Nigeria (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Burkina Faso (X tons), together finishing at 90% of total export. It was distantly followed by Benin (X tons), making up a 5.6% share of total exports. Togo (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Burkina Faso (with a CAGR of +48.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest nuts (prepared or preserved) supplying countries in Western Africa were Cote d'Ivoire ($X), Burkina Faso ($X) and Ghana ($X), with a combined 79% share of total exports.

Ghana, with a CAGR of +47.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, growing by 23% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 93% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In general, imports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 92% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined markedly in the following year.

In value terms, nuts (prepared or preserved) imports dropped sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, posted strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 68%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

Nigeria was the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which accounted for 33% of total imports. Senegal (X tons) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Guinea (13%), Liberia (9.2%), Cote d'Ivoire (9%) and Ghana (6.3%). Sierra Leone (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to nuts (prepared or preserved) imports into Nigeria stood at +17.1%. At the same time, Senegal (+56.0%), Guinea (+22.1%), Sierra Leone (+20.2%), Liberia (+13.1%), Ghana (+8.8%) and Cote d'Ivoire (+4.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Senegal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +56.0% from 2012-2021. Senegal (+15 p.p.), Nigeria (+6.8 p.p.) and Guinea (+6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire saw its share reduced by -3.4% and -10.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest nuts (prepared or preserved) importing markets in Western Africa were Senegal ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a combined 55% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Senegal, with a CAGR of +66.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, growing by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a perceptible decline.
