Exports in Western Africa

In 2022, approx. X tons of office or school supplies of plastics were exported in Western Africa; shrinking by -42.3% compared with the previous year. Overall, exports, however, saw mild growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 91% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then fell notably in the following year.

In value terms, office supply exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 173%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Nigeria (X tons) and Togo (X tons) dominates exports structure, together generating 83% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Benin (X tons), mixing up a 5.9% share of total exports. The following exporters - Cabo Verde (X kg), Ghana (X kg) and Mali (X kg) - together made up 8.9% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cabo Verde (with a CAGR of +37.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Benin ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Togo ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 93% share of total exports.

Benin, with a CAGR of +72.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 112% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a mild setback. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Benin ($X per ton), while Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Benin (+31.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Western Africa

In 2022, imports of office or school supplies of plastics in Western Africa fell markedly to X tons, declining by -24% against the year before. Total imports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 45%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell sharply in the following year.

In value terms, office supply imports contracted to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -12.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Togo (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Burkina Faso (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) represented roughly 77% of total imports in 2022. The following importers - Gambia (X tons), Benin (X tons), Liberia (X tons), Guinea (X tons), Niger (X tons) and Sierra Leone (X tons) - together made up 20% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Niger (with a CAGR of +15.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X), Senegal ($X) and Ghana ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 52% share of total imports.

Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of +10.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, surging by 15% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+9.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
