In 2012, Senegal (X kg) represented the main exporter of oxirane (ethylene oxide), constituting 89% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Gambia (X kg), achieving an 11% share of total exports.

Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Nigeria (X tons) represented the main importer of oxirane (ethylene oxide), comprising 66% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Gambia (X tons), comprising a 27% share of total imports. Ghana (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Nigeria increased at an average annual rate of +12.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (+29.8%) and Gambia (+26.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cote d'Ivoire emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +29.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Ghana (-32.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Nigeria (+56 p.p.), Gambia (+26 p.p.) and Cote d'Ivoire (+3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Ghana (-84.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Ghana ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 96% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of +67.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -22.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 147% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while Gambia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (+29.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
