In 2022, shipments abroad of pasta stuffed with meat, fish and cheese was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, showed a dramatic decrease. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, meat, fish or cheese pasta exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, faced a significant decrease. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Nigeria dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 86% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Gambia (X tons), committing a 5.7% share of total exports. Ghana (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Nigeria decreased at an average annual rate of -28.2% from 2012 to 2022. Gambia (-17.6%) and Ghana (-40.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Nigeria (+13 p.p.) and Gambia (+4.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Ghana saw its share reduced by -20.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) remains the largest meat, fish or cheese pasta supplier in Western Africa, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Gambia ($X), with a 9.2% share of total exports.
In Nigeria, meat, fish or cheese pasta exports plunged by an average annual rate of -35.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Gambia (-21.3% per year) and Ghana (-42.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -18.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 46% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Gambia ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (-3.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Pasta Stuffed With Meat, Fish and Cheese
Imports in Western Africa
In 2022, purchases abroad of pasta stuffed with meat, fish and cheese decreased by -54.5% to X tons, falling for the seventh consecutive year after four years of growth. In general, imports recorded a slight descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 1,231% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, meat, fish or cheese pasta imports shrank notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 2,411% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Togo (X tons) and Senegal (X tons) were the key importers of pasta stuffed with meat, fish and cheese in 2022, amounting to approx. 39% and 26% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X tons) and Cabo Verde (X tons), together achieving a 13% share of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Mali (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Benin (X tons) and Sierra Leone (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Nigeria (with a CAGR of +33.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest meat, fish or cheese pasta importing markets in Western Africa were Ghana ($X), Senegal ($X) and Togo ($X), together accounting for 55% of total imports. Cabo Verde, Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Mali, Sierra Leone and Benin lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.
Nigeria, with a CAGR of +39.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 22% against the previous year. In general, the import price enjoyed slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 89% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while Benin ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+5.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
