The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 65% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, peach and nectarine imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +19.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. In 2021, Cabo Verde (X tons), distantly followed by Mauritania (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) represented the major importers of peaches and nectarines, together mixing up 89% of total imports. The following importers - Benin (X tons) and Mali (X tons) - each recorded a 3.3% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Nigeria (with a CAGR of +22.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Cabo Verde ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Nigeria ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 68% of total imports.
Nigeria, with a CAGR of +19.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -2.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a perceptible setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 9.3% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Benin ($X per ton), while Mauritania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Benin (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
