The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 79% against the previous year. In value terms, the largest encased lead pencil importing markets in Western Africa were Ghana ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X), together comprising 71% of total imports. Togo, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.

Sierra Leone, with a CAGR of +36.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, falling by -22.5% against the previous year. Import price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 70% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
