In 2021, the West African peroxides of sodium market decreased by -18.9% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, consumption showed a sharp curtailment. Exports in Western Africa

In 2021, the amount of peroxides of sodium or potassium exported in Western Africa declined markedly to X tons, dropping by -22.3% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports, however, recorded a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 2,018% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, peroxides of sodium exports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 2,160% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Togo was the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 89% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X kg), making up an 11% share of total exports.

Togo was also the fastest-growing in terms of the peroxides of sodium or potassium exports, with a CAGR of +59.3% from 2012 to 2021. Cote d'Ivoire experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Togo (+84 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Cote d'Ivoire (-26.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Togo ($X) remains the largest peroxides of sodium supplier in Western Africa, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 16% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Togo totaled +44.5%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 48% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 81% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Togo amounted to $X per ton.

Imports in Western Africa

In 2021, overseas purchases of peroxides of sodium or potassium decreased by -31.5% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, imports saw a precipitous curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 96%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, peroxides of sodium imports shrank significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a significant curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 108%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Senegal (X tons) represented the largest importer of peroxides of sodium or potassium, generating 55% of total imports. Niger (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Mauritania (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 35% share of total imports. The following importers - Cabo Verde (X tons) and Gambia (X tons) - each reached a 6.4% share of total imports.

Imports into Senegal decreased at an average annual rate of -9.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Cabo Verde (+41.1%), Gambia (+29.3%) and Mauritania (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cabo Verde emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +41.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Niger (-34.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Senegal (+44 p.p.), Mauritania (+10 p.p.), Cabo Verde (+3.4 p.p.) and Gambia (+2.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Niger (-59.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the largest peroxides of sodium importing markets in Western Africa were Niger ($X), Senegal ($X) and Mauritania ($X), with a combined 96% share of total imports. Gambia and Cabo Verde lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 2%.

Cabo Verde, with a CAGR of +18.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the import price increased by 66% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Niger ($X per ton), while Cabo Verde ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
