Niger (X units) held a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Nigeria (7.9%), Senegal (7.3%), Cote d'Ivoire (7.1%) and Togo (5.6%). Liberia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to personal weighing machine exports from Ghana stood at -3.2%. At the same time, Liberia (+23.1%), Nigeria (+19.9%), Niger (+19.2%), Cote d'Ivoire (+12.4%) and Togo (+7.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Liberia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +23.1% from 2012-2022. In Ghana, personal weighing machine exports declined by an average annual rate of -6.9% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Niger (+18.5% per year) and Togo (+19.5% per year).

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, shrinking by -6.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 39%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Togo ($X per unit), while Liberia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Togo (+11.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Western Africa

In 2022, purchases abroad of personal weighing machines decreased by -26% to X units, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 98%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, personal weighing machine imports declined sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 119% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Ghana represented the key importing country with an import of around X units, which accounted for 34% of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire (X units) held a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Senegal (16%), Nigeria (14%) and Guinea (4.9%). The following importers - Mali (X units) and Niger (X units) - together made up 5.7% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Senegal (with a CAGR of +34.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ghana ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Senegal ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 69% share of total imports.

Senegal, with a CAGR of +31.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, growing by 3.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Niger ($X per unit), while Guinea ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Niger (+0.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
